Greek Theater

Who were the first people to write dramas? The Athenians were the first people to write these stories written to be performed by actors. The most popular plays were produced in the 400s B.C., during the Golden Age.

Some of the most famous Greek dramas were tragedies. A tragedy is a type of serious drama that usually ends in disaster for the main character.

Between scenes in the play, a chorus chanted or sang poems. In most plays, the chorus gave background information, commented on the events, or praised the gods. Euripides, Aeschylus, and Sophocles were important authors of tragedies.
